What is 3D printing?

3D printing, or additive manufacturing, is the construction of a three-dimensional object from a CAD model or a digital 3D model.^[1] The term “3D printing” can refer to a variety of processes in which material is deposited, joined or solidified under computer control to create a three-dimensional object,^[2] with material being added together (such as liquid molecules or powder grains being fused together), typically layer by layer.

• Speed

  One of the biggest advantages of 3D printing technology is Rapid Prototyping. Rapid prototyping is the ability to design, manufacture, and test a customized part in as little time as possible. Also, if needed, the design can be modified without adversely affecting the speed of the manufacturing process.

• Cost

  For small production runs and applications, 3D printing is the most cost-effective manufacturing process.

• Flexibility

  Another big advantage of 3D printing is that any given printer can create almost anything that fits within its build volume.
